Sam Tordoff could be in line to make a return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in 2018 after getting back behind the wheel of a touring car at Snetterton.
Completing a test with AMD Tuning in their Audi S3, Tordoff had the opportunity to not only sample NGTC machinery once again but also provide feedback for the team as they bid to make further progress next year.
Tordoff stepped away from the BTCC at the end of 2016 after narrowly missing out on securing a maiden drivers’ title with West Surrey Racing. The Yorkshireman has since competed in a host of endurance categories, namely British GT.
Testing alongside Tordoff was also Aaron Mason, former AMD driver, and British F4 racer Sam Smelt – who took over driving duties on day two.
“We’ve made no secret of the fact that we want to take steps forwards with our BTCC programme so the opportunity to run a race-winning driver in the car is one we couldn’t turn down,” Hollamby said.
“Although the conditions were far from ideal, it was interesting to get Sam’s feedback on the car and of course we’d be more than open to the possibility of working with him in 2018 if he decided he wanted to make a return to touring cars.
“In terms of Aaron and Sam Smelt, Aaron wanted to sample an NGTC car and I value his technical feedback, whilst Sam is evaluating his options for next year and is a young driver who we feel has a lot of potential if he were to decide to follow the touring car route.”
The team is yet to name drivers for next season but has already confirmed that it will return as a two-car Independent outfit.
